Born and raised in Langsa, May 15, 1982. Moved and lived in Yogyakarta since 2002 to study Graphic Art in Indonesia Institute of the Arts (ISI Yogyakarta). It definitely brings big influence in my artistic expression. Likewise with the medium selection which often analogized to it; papers with the print - printing character. I applied this medium to a broader way, not merely as a passive medium for printing, but reconstruct the paper to be subject matter as well as narration in my artwork. Herewith some medium exploration I use frequently; canvases, woods, aluminum plates, and lamps installation. In addition to two-dimensional shape, diorama and installation become one of the execution forms, later.
Personal narration and daily problems become frequent theme in my creative process, especially regard to the matter of identity. I formed a heavy metal band SANGKAKALA, and collaborated in an experimental art & music performance project, PUNKASILA with some of my friends. My closeness to the youth culture and the background of my motherland, Nangroe Aceh Darussalam with the Moslem Sharia Law and its political conflict still remain a ‘daily life’, simply be one of negotiation area in my artistic expression.
I’m also member in artist collective group called Ace House Collective, which is active in the field of popular culture that emphasize in the exploratory approach of the visual alternative culture, both in theory and practice, conceptually and contextually. In this group also acted as an art laboratory that not only produces visual works, but its crossing from interdisciplinary backgrounds.
